Deepening Our Investment in Eagle Mountain, Utah

Today, Meta is thrilled to announce the Eagle Mountain Data Center is growing.

With this expansion, we are increasing our investment in Utah to more than $3 billion and will support more than 1,200 construction workers at the peak of construction, as well as more than 300 jobs at the data center once completed. Investing in Eagle Mountain’s Future

Meta is committed to supporting communities where we operate through our Future Is for Everyone Fund, a $1 billion commitment to invest directly in U.S. communities where Meta owns and operates data centers, including Eagle Mountain.

As part of this ongoing commitment, we’re proud to announce a $450,000 grant to the City of Eagle Mountain for construction of the Walden Park Astronomy Park, bringing our total contribution to $700,000. This first-of-its-kind regional facility will feature seven telescopes, a retractable roof and year-round STEM education, community programming and public stargazing. 

We’re also investing $600,000 to acquire three acres for a future elementary school in partnership with Lake Mountain School District, helping secure land ahead of future growth and support the schools and infrastructure Eagle Mountain will need as it continues to grow.

In addition, we are committing $1.5 million to the Lake Mountain Education Foundation, and an ongoing annual contribution of $50,000 to support initiatives that directly enhance student learning experiences, including early childhood literacy – a foundational priority for Lake Mountain School District. 

Being a Good Neighbor in Eagle Mountain

Since breaking ground in 2018, we have been proud to call Eagle Mountain home and are committed to being a good neighbor. We have invested more than $50 million in local infrastructure improvements, including roads and water infrastructure, helping support growth and development in the area. 

To date, Meta has contributed more than $6.2 million to local schools and organizations — including hydroponics programs at Cedar Valley High School, Alpine School District’s Christa McAuliffe Space Center, and the Small Business Launchpad at the Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce. We have also contributed $4.85 million to Eagle Mountain City’s Affordable Housing Fund, supporting programs like mortgage assistance for 66 local families. 

Advancing Water Stewardship

We remain committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our data centers. When it comes to water, we prioritize water stewardship and our goal is to be water positive in 2030, meaning Meta will restore more water than we consume globally where we have owned operations.

For our new buildings in Eagle Mountain, we will use a water-efficient, closed-loop liquid cooling system with dry cooling, meaning there will be no operational water use in the cooling system. Water use onsite will be limited to domestic uses, fire protection and equipment maintenance. Our continued annual operational water use is projected to be less than one typical golf course in the region.

We’re also working with local partners on water restoration projects, including the Hobble Creek Flow Restoration Project and Provo River Flow Restoration Project, which have collectively restored more than 726 million gallons of water per year. 

And in a partnership with the City, we have repurposed a portion of the water from our server cooling systems to irrigate Cory Wride Memorial Park, a significant recreational area for the community, improving reliability for residents and outdoor enthusiasts alike. 

These efforts are part of our broader commitment to responsible water stewardship.

Investing in Clean and Reliable Energy 

We’re committed to being a positive contributor to Eagle Mountain, and that includes investing in new clean energy. We pay the full costs of our data centers’ energy use so other consumers aren’t negatively impacted, and we fund the new and upgraded infrastructure needed to support our operations. In Eagle Mountain, we have fully funded new generation and grid infrastructure, helping improve reliability across the Rocky Mountain Power grid.

As with all our data centers, the Eagle Mountain Data Center’s electricity use is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy. Working with retail partners, we have added more than 1.7 GW of clean and renewable energy and 600MWh of battery storage to Utah across 13 sites. We are also supporting the Faraday Energy Storage project, a 150-megawatt battery facility owned and operated by Lydian Energy.
