Water is a shared and vital resource and at Meta we approach water stewardship with the responsibility and technical expertise it deserves. In Newton County, Georgia, we uphold this by prioritizing water efficiency and fostering meaningful local partnerships — Meta partners with Newton County Water and Sewerage Authority to secure 100% of the water used at our Stanton Springs Data Center. We do not utilize groundwater in our operations.

Service agreements between Meta and the Newton County Water Authority are grounded in water analysis and modeling, the same rigorous process applied to every user on the system, residential or industrial. “We have service agreements with Meta and they have honored those service agreements,” said Mike Hopkins, Executive Director of the Newton County Water Authority. “Meta operates well within the bounds of its agreed allocation, with no impact on the county’s groundwater supply.”

Meta is proud of the work we put into designing and operating our data centers to minimize the need for water resources and to ensure there will be no negative impact to the ratepayer due to our projects. Meta pays the full cost associated with water and sewer usage, including any new necessary infrastructure to reach and loop the site.

Through our water stewardship program, we are focused on minimizing data center water use, supporting water restoration and conservation projects in watersheds where we have data centers and being transparent with our water consumption to support our goal of being water positive in 2030.This starts at the data center design and operational level to minimize the water we use.

“There’s opportunities for us to grow our communities in a sustainable way and provide benefits,” said Hopkins. “If you bring companies in, good stable companies, then you can get a better balance and you can share the load.”

Since breaking ground in 2018, we’ve invested in infrastructure improvements to support Newton County’s growth. We’re proud to call Newton County home to our Stanton Springs Data Center.
