Hello, Louisiana!
Richland Parish, Louisiana, will be home to the newest Meta owned and operated data center — our 23rd data center in the United States and 27th in the world. This custom-designed 4 million-square-foot campus will be our largest data center to date. It will play a vital role in accelerating our AI progress.
Once completed, the Richland Parish Data Center will represent an investment of more than $10 billion in Louisiana and will support over 500 operational jobs. We are also investing over $200 million in local infrastructure improvements.
We anticipate that more than 5,000 construction workers will be onsite at peak construction, and we will make a concerted effort to source labor and materials locally, and provide substantial contributions directly to the community. Job opportunities for the data center will be on the Meta Careers page in a few weeks.
Richland Parish is an outstanding location for Meta to call home for a number of reasons: It has great access to infrastructure, a reliable grid, a business-friendly climate, and wonderful community partners that have helped us move this project forward. We’re thrilled to be a new member of the Richland Parish community and are committed to investing in its long-term vitality.
Once the data center is operational, we will launch our Data Center Community Action Grants program, where Meta partners with schools and local organizations to help put the power of technology to use for community benefit and improve STEAM education. We are also proud to bring programs to Louisiana that help local small businesses and nonprofits grow their reach, like our no-cost digital skills training.
Additionally, Meta will be contributing $1 million a year to Entergy’s customer assistance program, which provides bill payment assistance to low-income seniors and customers with disabilities.
Building with sustainability in mind is important to us. Together with our energy partner, Entergy, we are adding enough clean and renewable energy to the grid to cover 100% of the electricity use of our Richland Parish Data Center. We have worked closely with Entergy from the beginning to plan for our energy needs, and we will bring at least 1,500 megawatts of new renewable energy to the grid.
Meta also prioritizes water stewardship, and we work to make sure our data centers operate efficiently. We are proud to say that we anticipate this data center will use less water than the site does today. Meta has the global goal to be water positive in 2030, which means we will restore more water than we consume. Here in Louisiana, we are partnering on a restoration project that will improve water quality in the local watershed, and investing in a community organization that will work to address shared water challenges in the Mississippi River basin.
Meta is proud to work alongside Governor Jeff Landry, Louisiana Economic Development, Richland Parish, Richland Parish Police Jury, Grow NELA, Entergy, Mortenson, Turner Construction Company, DPR Construction, and all of our partners that have helped get us to today. We look forward to having a strong partnership for years to come.
