Hello, Georgia!
We are thrilled to announce that Newton County, Georgia, will be home to our newest data center. We selected Newton County for a number of reasons — it provides good access to renewable energy, it has a strong pool of talent from engineering to construction, and we found a great set of community partners that have helped us move this project forward quickly.
Our Stanton Springs Data Center (*formerly Newton Data Center) will be part of the valuable infrastructure that helps bring our apps and services to 2+ billion people across the globe. These buildings, and the hardware inside of them, support our mission to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together. This data center will help us continue to provide a good experience for people around the world, especially as the number of photos and videos being shared grows and as we create more immersive experiences through live video, 360 photos and videos, and virtual reality.
This will be Facebook’s twelfth data center, and ninth in the United States. We are happy to say that we have seen the positive impacts these structures have on communities and local economies. We recently released an independent study that determined that for every one data center job, there are five jobs supported elsewhere in the economy. And for every $1 million in capital expenditures, there are 14.5 jobs supported in the economy. At the Stanton Springs Data Center, we not only will be looking to hire engineers and managers, but our project will translate to hundreds of construction and trades jobs starting today through 2020, when the 970,000 sf structure will be completed.
We are committed to playing a positive role in the community and to powering our data centers with 100% clean and renewable energy. As part of that commitment, we are also excited to announce that we are partnering with Walton Electric Membership Corporation to bring hundreds of MWs of renewable energy to the area’s electrical grid. This will result in millions of dollars of investment into solar resources across the state — and will provide a reliable source of energy for our facility and the community in general.
Over the next 10 years, we will continue working on the foundational technologies needed to bring the world closer together – and our Stanton Springs Data Center will be part of that. Thank you to the state of Georgia. With growing renewable energy and tech sectors, it’s truly a great time for the state. We are excited to be part of it and help contribute to that growth.
