Hello, Mesa!
We are so excited to announce that we are joining the Arizona community! We are breaking ground on our newest data center in Mesa. This facility will be an important part of the global infrastructure that brings our apps and services to billions of people around the world. Once completed, the data center will represent an investment of more than $800 million and will support approximately 100 jobs.
But for us, it’s important to make sure the community knows how excited and proud we are to be here. Mesa stood out as a great location for a number of reasons. There is great access to infrastructure, opportunities for renewable energy development, strong talent for both construction and operations, and great community partners.
We know water is a concern, so we want to make it clear that we are committed to restoring more water than our data center will consume into watersheds in Arizona. We have invested in three water restoration projects that together will restore over 200 million gallons of water per year in the Colorado River and Salt River basins and will help provide greater water security for the entire state. We’re excited to contribute to projects that are stabilizing water levels in Lake Mead, leaving more water flowing in Oak Creek, and providing permanent drinking water to Navajo Nation families in Arizona.
We are also excited to announce that we have partnered closely with the Salt River Project to bring 450 megawatts of new solar energy to the local electric grid. These projects, located in Pinal County, will bring additional jobs and investment to the region. This is also part of our effort to limit the amount of water used, as renewable energy uses less water than fossil fuels.
We anticipate that approximately 1,500 construction workers will be on site at the peak of construction. And we will start posting job openings for the data center in the next couple of weeks. For construction information, please check the DPR Construction website.
We are proud to work alongside the Arizona Commerce Authority, the City of Mesa, Arizona Government, the Eastmark community, the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Salt River Project, and all of our partners that have helped get us to today. We are excited to join the Mesa community and look forward to having a strong partnership for years to come.
