Mesa, we are online!
Meta is excited to announce that the Mesa Data Center is now serving traffic. That means this data center is now part of our global infrastructure that brings our technologies and services to life, making it possible to connect billions of people worldwide.
Since Meta broke ground on this data center in 2021, Mesa, Arizona, has become our home. We chose this location because it offered excellent infrastructure, great access to renewable energy, a strong pool of talent for both construction and operations staff, and incredible community partners. Construction of the Mesa Data Center has resulted in an average of 2,000 skilled trade workers on site at peak, and the facility currently supports more than 200 operational jobs. Once fully built out, this facility will represent an investment of more than $1 billion in the state of Arizona.
From the beginning, Meta has been committed to being an active part of the Maricopa County community and investing in its long-term vitality. As part of that commitment, we are also announcing today a new investment in the Mesa College Promise program to provide financial support for Mesa residents attending Mesa Community College. Our $225,000 grant will help cover the cost of college attendance for Mesa residents pursuing STEM certificates and degrees, bringing our total support of the program to $300,000.
This month, Meta also helped create a new multimedia center at The Official Gilbert Public Schools District’ Desert Ridge Junior High. This center, which was supported by a $75,000 grant from Meta, will provide students with the tools and resources to explore various digital mediums such as animation, video game design, digital art, and music production.
Meta prioritizes water stewardship, and we have a goal to be water positive in 2030. That means we will restore more water than we consume. In Arizona, we are supporting 12 regional water conservation and restoration projects that put hundreds of millions of gallons of water back into the state’s watersheds.
As another part of our commitment to sustainability, Mesa Data Center’s electricity use, like at all of our data centers, is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy. Through our partnership with the Salt River Project, three Meta-supported projects are adding 450 megawatts of new renewable energy in Arizona. The Mesa Data Center will also be LEED Gold certified.
We are proud to work alongside Governor Katie Hobbs, the Arizona Commerce Authority, the City of Mesa, Arizona Government, DPR Construction, Eastmark, SRP, and all of our local partners for helping us get to today. We are thrilled to be part of the Mesa community and look forward to continuing to strengthen our partnership for years to come.
