Investing in jobs, infrastructure and schools: Meta data centers help our communities thrive

A data center in construction

Meta data centers are part of the global infrastructure that brings our technologies and programs to life.

Meta’s global fleet of 28 data centers powers our technologies — including Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, Meta Quest, Ray-Ban Meta glasses and Threads — and makes it possible to connect billions of people worldwide.

Across the United States, 24 Meta data centers are part of this global infrastructure that brings our technologies and programs to life.

Our U.S. data centers make a positive impact on the communities where we operate. In each location, Meta data centers hire locally and support thousands of jobs. We’re proud to be a strong partner with school, nonprofits and local businesses. Meta also invests in locally led efforts to conserve and restore water and supports projects that add new clean and renewable energy to the grid.

Data centers partner with schools, communities

Meta is committed to playing a positive role and investing in the long-term vitality of our data center communities. Part of that commitment includes being a strong partner with local schools, nonprofits and businesses, and helping to address critical community needs through our annual Community Action Grants program and other initiatives. These grants put technology to use for community benefit and improve STEAM education. We also offer programs, like our no-cost digital skills training, that help local small businesses and nonprofits grow their reach.

Our goal is restoring more water than we consume globally in 2030

In communities where we have data centers, we support more than 30 water restoration and conservation projects that put billions of gallons of water back into local watersheds each year. Once all projects are fully implemented, they will restore 1.9 billion gallons of water annually.

Working at a Meta data center

Each data center building requires hundreds of skilled trade jobs. These include construction managers, health and safety specialists, electricians, carpenters and others. Once operational, each data center supports hundreds of jobs, including electrical specialists, network engineers, server technicians, security and more. These team members are critical to keeping our data centers running 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Buildings for the future: Infrastructure for AI

Delivering next-generation AI products and services at our scale requires next-generation infrastructure. Our AI-optimized data centers will support our current products while enabling future generations of AI innovation. These data centers will allow for denser server racks to support large-scale AI clusters, along with liquid-cooled AI hardware.

The largest Meta data center yet: Richland Parish

Our Richland Parish Data Center in northeast Louisiana will play a vital role in accelerating AI progress at Meta, delivering over two gigawatts of compute capacity to train future open-source large language models. The 4 million-square-foot campus will support more than 5,000 skilled trade workers at peak construction. Once completed, it will support over 500 operational jobs. Meta is investing more than $10 billion in Louisiana — including over $200 million in roads, water and other local infrastructure improvements, and a $1 million annual contribution to Entergy’s customer assistance program. Meta will match the data center’s electricity use with 100% clean and renewable energy.

New clean and renewable energy for the grid

We partner with local utilities to supply energy to operate our data centers and make additional investments to add new clean and renewable energy to the grid. Our investments have added 15+ gigawatts of new energy projects to the grid across 27 states, representing more than $16 billion in capital investments. We also support new technologies such as battery storage and geothermal, and we have announced our intent to support one to four gigawatts of new nuclear energy projects in the United States.
