Since we broke ground on our data center in Papillion in 2017, we’ve met some major milestones. We’ve provided thousands of construction jobs, moved over 3 million cubic yards of dirt, and erected more than 6,000 tons of steel. In 2019, the data center came online, helping power our family of apps, including Facebook and Instagram. Then in 2021, we crossed over Capehart Road into Springfield for our first expansion and renamed our location Sarpy Data Center.

In the past five years we have made Sarpy County our home, and the good news is that we are expanding again! Today, we are announcing a new building in Springfield to make our Sarpy Data Center a nine-building, 4 million-square-foot campus.

As our data center grows, so does our commitment to Sarpy County. Through engaged partnerships with schools, nonprofits and the business community, we have provided grants and other support totaling more than $2.5 million. Our focus remains on STEM education, projects that connect communities online and off, and economic development that helps the community grow.

Our commitment to sustainability continues to grow as well. The Sarpy Data Center will continue to be supported by 100% renewable energy, made possible through our investments in wind energy, including a wind farm in Dixon County, Neb. Meta reached net zero emissions for our operations in 2020, and we are committed to achieving net zero in our value chain and being water positive by 2030.

It’s no secret that Sarpy County is a great place to grow. This announcement wouldn’t be possible without incredible partners in our cities, county and state governments, economic development organizations, schools, nonprofits and the business community. Our growing team loves calling Sarpy County home, and we are thrilled to contribute to its bright future — again!
