Temple, we are online!

We are excited to announce the Meta Temple Data Center is now serving traffic. The Temple Data Center is optimized for our AI workloads as part of the industry-leading infrastructure that helps bring our technologies and programs to life. These buildings and the hardware inside them will help people connect, find communities, and grow businesses. We’re proud that this is our first AI-optimized data center to come online.

This facility represents an investment of more than $1.2 billion in Temple. Construction of the Temple Data Center supported 1,200 skilled trade workers on site at peak, and the data center currently supports almost 100 operational roles.

We are proud to call Temple home and we are committed to being a good neighbor and investing in the long-term vitality of this community. Temple stood out as an ideal location for its reliable infrastructure, access to energy, a strong pool of talent, and great community partners. We believe the success of a data center is only possible when the community succeeds alongside it, and we want Temple to thrive.

From the beginning, we have been committed to being a good neighbor and community partner. Since we broke ground, we have invested in this community, providing more than $1.7 million in direct funding to Bell County-area schools and nonprofits, including through our annual Data Center Community Action Grants. And today we announced a more than $400,000 grant to Temple and Belton Independent School Districts to launch mobile STEM and AI learning labs for students from Pre-K to 12th grade. 

We are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our data centers – we take a full-lifecycle approach, focusing on reducing environmental impact from design and construction through operations and the responsible management of our equipment. When it comes to water, we prioritize water stewardship and have the global goal to be water positive in 2030. That means we will restore more water than we consume to local watersheds where Meta has owned operations. Here in Temple, we are supporting a regional water conservation and restoration project that puts 5.2 million gallons of water back into the local watershed annually. We are proud that the Temple Data Center uses a water efficient closed-loop, liquid-cooled system that will use zero water for a majority of the year.

Like at all of our data centers, the Temple Data Center’s electricity use is matched with 100% clean and renewable energy. More than 40 Meta-supported projects are adding 9,000 MW of new clean and renewable energy in Texas. And importantly, we pay the full costs of our data centers’ energy use so other consumers aren’t negatively impacted, and fund new and upgraded infrastructure. We worked closely with Oncor Electric to plan for and meet our energy needs years in advance of our data center coming online.

A foundational part of our data center program is being transparent with our operations. Now that this data center is operational, we will begin publishing our water withdrawal and energy consumption in our Annual Sustainability Report at sustainability.atmeta.com.
